John Reed is an American-Australian actor, dancer, singer, choreographer, teacher and Mexican food enthusiast! Born in Houston, Texas, John relocated to Melbourne, Australia in 2004 and studied all facets of dance, singing and acting at the May Downs School of Dancing and Centrestage Performing Arts School. He went on to graduate from the Ballarat Arts Academy in 2015 with a BA in Music Theatre.
His professional theatre credits include Funny Girl (The Production Company), Merrily We Roll Along (Watch This!), Jesus Christ Superstar (The Production Company), He Said She Said (Lion Heart Theatre Co), Songs for Swingin’ Lovers (Stageart) and ‘Action’/‘Riff understudy’ in West Side Story on Sydney Harbour (Opera Australia). John is an inaugural member of the Melbourne Shakespeare Company, having performed in their productions of A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest, Much Ado About Nothing, Twelfth Night, Romeo and Juliet and King Lear. As a choreographer, credits include Black rock (EbbFlow Theatre Co), Love’s Labour’s Lost, The Taming of the Shrew, As You Like It, The Winter’s Tale and The Comedy of Errors (Melbourne Shakespeare Company). John then moved to New York City in 2022 and has performed the role of Rusty Charlie/Dance Captain in Guys and Dolls (Plaza Theatricals) as well as Something Rotten (Franklin Performing Arts Company) where he also served as dance captain.
John has also been teaching since the age of 19 at Federation University Arts Academy, May Downs School of Dancing, Ministry of Dance, Transit Dance, Theatre Blacks and Centrestage Performing Arts School.
